INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR SEAL REPLACEMENT

1.Disassemble pump cavity to expose defective seal Assembly of new seal requires precaution.
2.Carefully remove old seal head and seat, taking care to not scratch shaft or seat counterbore.
Note : how old seal is assembled to be sure replacement seal is installed in identical manner.
3.Clean shaft and counterbore surfaces using fine emery cloth or equivalent. Remove rust, burrs and wipe clean.
4.Shaft, seat counterbore and rubber members of seal should be lubricated with a light oil.
Check seal mating faces to be sure that they are free of any dirt, grit, grease or oil.
Note: Never use grease or heavy oil for installation lubricant. Any oil or grease on seal faces may cause the seal to leak.
5.Slide seal head along shaft, making sure that the spring is correctly engaged into seal head

1.Cracked or broken
stationary seat (ceramic)
"Seal ran dry and heated up.
When liquid reached seal face, it was
cooler and causing thermal crack."
Insure that seal chamber is full of liquid before
starting pump. On high temperature application,
insure proper flushing at seal face.
2.Grooved or scored stationary
seat (metal part)
Too much spring tension from rotary is
exerting excessive pressure, forcing
seal ring to groove seat.
Change spring to shorter operating height or
remove excessive shims if possible.
3.Stationary seat (metal) welded
to seal ring (carbon or metal).
Seal ran dry or ran at excessive temperature
for long period, sufficient to
bond materials with extreme heat.
Insure that seal chamber is full of liquid before
starting pump. On high temperature application,
insure proper flushing at seal face.
4.Carbon washer scored
and grooved.
Dirty system.Have system cleaned and install filter
or separator.
5.Buna bellows hard and brittle,
rapid carbon wear.
Temperature too high.Use VITON elastomer, stainless steel, tungsten
carbide, or silicon carbide seal ring and/or seat.
6.Carbon washer worn unevenly.Seal improperly installed.Check installation instructions for
proper seal assembly.
7.Bellows fractured
(minute crazing or splitting).
Intermittent use in critical applications
or material incompatibility.
Consult us for suitable bellows for applications.
8.Bellows soft and sticky; appears
to be dissolving.
Bellows not compatible with mate
rial being pumped.
Consult us for recommendation of pump and
temperatures.
9.Flexible bellows broken.Coupling misalignment.
Check bearings for shaft end play.
Realign pump and motor.
10.Seal wears out shaft.Check bearings for shaft radial
movement. Check shaft straightness.
Replace bearings. Replace shaft.
